Abstract

This study is entitled "Participation of Persons with Disabilities of the Blind in the Election of the Governor of South Sumatra (Case Study in the Tuns Netra Village, Ilir Timur District III)". The design of this study uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The purpose of this research is to find out about the knowledge of blind people in the election of the Governor of South Sumatra, the extent of participation of persons with visual impairments and the obstacles experienced by persons with visual impairment when participating in the elections of the Governor of South Sumatra. Narrative strategies are used in this study. Respondents in this study amounted to nine people Types and Sources of data obtained through primary data and secondary data with data collection techniques by observation, interviews and related documents. Data Analysis Techniques using compound data analysis techniques. This study uses the Partipasipasi component from Milbrath and Goel (1977) in the form of Gladiator, Apathy, Spector and Critics components. The results of this study note that people with disabilities have followed political developments, especially developments at the time of election, participation made by persons with visual impairments is divided into two, namely having participated in campaigns and never participating in campaigns, spector participation component according to Milbrath and Goel (1977) is a type that is mostly found in persons with disabilities who are blind who participate in political participation.
