Abstract

The cyclone separator is a simple and low cost particle separator which has many applications in the industrial. The performance of the cyclone separator is influenced by several factors, including: inlet gas velocity, viscocity, temperature, particulate concentration, and geometric shape. To obtain optimal operation and to increase efficiency of particle separation, conducted research on the performance multi inlet cyclone separator with certain geometry (D=114 mm) by using standard Stairmand. The purpose of this study is to find out the masss of the trapped particle and the mass of the escaped particle and the efficiency of particle separation with inlet airflow velocity from different factors of particle dencity. The method used is experimental by making a cyclone test device using two blowers. Tests were carried out on three kinds of powder particles as air pollutants with the same size value for each particle of 150 μm. From the test results, it was obtained that the greatest efficiency Value is at a density value of 1133 kg/m3 of 98,54%, the results of increased efficiency will be obtained with an increase in air velocity variations from minimum velocity of 8,37 m/s to maximum velocity of 15,97 m/s. The greater value of particle density and increasing the variation in air velocity, so efficiency will be increased. This comparison is seen from the results of the efficiency at a density 1034 kg/m3 only 76,66% and the efficiency at a density of 933 kg/m3 decreased by 58,66%. Increase in the value of efficiency to the value of density has no effect when the variation in air velocity <10 m/s is seen from the comparison of the density value of 1034 kg/m3 with a density of 933 kg/m3, because the efficiency at a density 1034 kg/m3 is lower than density of 933 kg/m3, the ratio of this density factor can only take effect when the variation in air velocity is >10 m/s.
