Abstract

The most common stroke causes hemiparesis, as signs and symptoms that can occur usually stroke sufferers will have difficulty in moving and muscular weakness. To overcome the problem is necessary to conduct routine exercise therapy and repeated stimulations, one of which is exercise using the method of mirror therapy, because mirror therapy involves the interaction of visual-motor perception to improve the movement of the body members who are experiencing hemiparesis and help the process of neuroplasticity in the brain. The design used in this study was the experimental quasi, the number of samples as many as 15 people using inclusion criteria. The tool used to measure the strength of the biceps muscle is manual muscle testing while the measurement of the range of motion elbow uses the goniometer. Analysis using Paired Samples T-Test. Statistical test results obtained a significant effect between mirror therapy with muscle strength (p = 0.002) and a significant effect was obtained between mirror therapy with range of motion (p value = 0,000). Increased muscle strength post-stroke is related to plasticity, so the brain is able to compensate for existing damage and inflict new neuronal interconnection. Meanwhile, the joint motion repair is related to repair of motor neurons due to repeated movements in each area of joints. To increase muscle strength and a permanent range of motion in the need of a coordinator by community nurses and family nurses who are in the working area to do mirror therapy both in the puskesmas and in the patient's home continually so that the comprehensive service is achieved. For this reason, mirror therapy is highly recommended for post-stroke rehabilitation, in addition to being easily applied this therapy also uses a simple tool, which is a mirror.
