Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by a lack of nutrition in a long time and in feeding that is not in accordance with nutritional needs. Culture includes everything that is around humans both individually and in groups that have values or understandings that develop around people's lives. School-age children are a group that cannot be ignored in national development because school-age children, especially elementary school children, are development resources. The purpose of this study is to determine the socio-cultural picture associated with the incidence of stunting in school children in the Four Lawang district. Method This study uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach conducted by in-depth interviews (Indept Interview) and observation. The results of this study are the socio-cultural picture of the incidence of stunting in school children including eating culture that is still influenced by customs and culture, still prioritizing fathers in feeding, consumption patterns that include the frequency of eating, meal times and types of food as well as the habits of snacks of the Tebing Tinggi community , taboo food / taboo foods as well as myths or beliefs of the community of Empat Lawang Conclusion: The eating culture of the society of Empat Lawang tends to consume food on the basis of habits, hobbies, and pleasure of the tongue without regard to quality and quantity. Still prioritizing fathers in feeding. Consumption patterns affect the level of income earned. Food taboos in the community of Empat Lawang are no longer available.Suggestion: mothers should pay more attention to the nutritional intake of food in the provision of food in the family, so that the case of stunting can decrease.
