Abstract

This study discusses gender inequality in Kartini’s films using Sara Mills’s critical discourses analysis. This Kartini film is one of Hanung Bramantyo’s works produced in 2017 with the theme of women. The research method used in this research is Sara Mills critical discourse analysis, this method looks at the position of the subject-object and the position of the audience. This research data collection using observation, documentation, and in-dept interviews. The result of this study indicate that position of the subject is Kartini, because she can present herself and others, as well as exert resistance power. While the position of the objects in this study were R.M Sosroningrat, R.A Moeryam, R.M Slamet, Hadiningrat, Kangmas, and Dimas because they could not present themselves and the perpetrators of gender inequality. Then, the audience positions itself as the subject.
