Abstract

Energy demand in Indonesia has increased every year where the outlook of primary energy demand in Indonesia is predicted to increase to 314 MTOE by 2025 and most of the energy demand comes from fossil energy sources, one of them is coal resource. The potential of coal in Indonesia is almost available on every large island in Indonesia with coal reserves is 26.2 billion tons and total coal resources is 124.6 billion tons. This indicates the potential of CBM resources in the hydrocarbon basin in Indonesia and needs further investigation. Initial investigations are usually executed by analyzing a large area randomly in areas that are considered interesting. The problem is the area to be investigated is a large area and requires a long time to be done and high costs if done randomly. Current technological advances, especially remote sensing technology such as Landsat-8 can produce image data of earth’s surface that can be utilized to assist the analysis of the earth's surface region in the investigation of potential energy resources. Based on this, this study conducted aims to determine indicators in areas that potentially contain CBM resources based on the lineament structure on earth’s surface which extracted from Landsat-8 image data and its results are used to predict the area in WIUP Banko Tengah Blok B PT. Bukit Asam, Tbk which has potential of CBM resources. This study utilizes the availability image data of Landsat-8 L1T type in the study area as material for analyzing the surface area of the earth by extracting the lineament structure in the study area and processing it into a Lineament Structure Map. Based on study objectives, this study can be classified as a descriptive study where the study provides an overview of areas that have the potential of CBM gas resources. Image data processing is carried out with 2 main stages, namely Image Data Preparation Stages and Image Data Processing Stages. This study also utilizes DEM SRTM data, Spatial Planning Maps, Strategic Area Maps, Geological Sheets Maps, and Geological Maps of Banko Tengah Blok B to be processed and used as supporting data. The results showed results of the lineament structure extraction process and the density of the lineament structure that developed in the Banko Tengah Blok B were concentrated in several areas in the region and indicated that areas in the research area with high values of the lineament structure showed a relationship with geological structures such as folds and fault that develops in the region. The geological structure will affect the permeability and porosity of the existing coal seams in the study area so as to increase confidence in CBM gas resources. The number of potential areas in the Banko Tengah Blok B is 23 areas with a total area of 17.452 km2 or 7.71% of the total area of WIUP Banko Tengah Blok B.
