Abstract

This research aims to study the effect of compost and vermicompost on soil water content and soil nitrogen also plant growth of onion. This research was conducted from September to December 2019, in the experimental pool of Soil Science and chemical analysis was conducted in Laboratory of Biology, Chemistry and Soil Fertility, Soil Science Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research used Randomized Complete Block Design Factorial, the first factor was compost consists of 2 levels and the second factor was vermicompost consists of 4 levels. Each treatment was repeated 3 times, the data obtained was analyzed using Anova and followed by Least Significance Different. The result of this research showed that the addition of compost and vermicompost did not showed significantly affected on the height of onion, but interaction the to showed significantly affected in the eighth week. Other than that, the interaction of compost and vermicompost did not significantly affeceted on the number of onion tillers, while in vermicompost addition gave significantly affected to the number of onion tillers in first week. The addition of vermicompost also gave significantly affected to soil nitrogen and soil water content on fourth and eighth weeks.
