Abstract

Social controls are needed to warn adolescents in using gadget in Ilir Barat I Sub-District in Palembang City to create a conformable atmosphere. The object of this research is the people who reside in the Ilir Barat I Sub-district, Palembang City. This research aims to examine the social controls that carried out in the Ilir Barat I Sub-district of Palembang City against adolescents in using their gadgets with the social control theory that according to Setiadi and Kolip. The method that being used in this research is the descriptive qualitative with the main informants being family (parents and siblings of adolescents), schools (teachers) and the community (neighbors around those adolescents's residence and traders around those adolescent schools) and supporting informants (adolescent of gadget users in the Ilir Barat I Sub-district, Palembang City). Data collection techniques that being used are the interviews, observation and documentation. The social control method that being used for social control of adolescents that using gadgets in the Ilir Barat I Sub-district in Palembang City is the persuasive and the coercive ways. Where the persuasive way is by giving a gift to the adolescents and a coercive way is by confiscating the adolescent gadgets Whereas, the form of social control is carried out by giving warnings (family, teacher, and community), giving guidance or direction (family), giving advice (family, school and community), and easing the punishment for the adolescents (families).The executor of social control in family environment that carried out by the parents and the siblings of the adolescents, the school environment is carried out by the teachers and the community environment is carried out by the neighbors around the place where adolescents live and the traders around the adolescents schools Keywords: Social Control, Adolescent, Gadget
