Abstract

The pile foundation surface that is not too rough causes the friction resistance to be less influential. Therefore, it is necessary to modify the pile in order to increase the shear resistance strength of the pile itself. The modification is to use the helical on foundation to increase the friction area. There are two methods to determine the bearing capacity, those are the individual bearing method and the cylindrical shear method. The helical piles used in this study are made of steel pipes with a length of ± 60 cm with a diameter of 1.5 cm and a helical plate with a diameter of 6 cm, 8 cm and 10 cm with a helical plate thickness of 2 mm. Three helical plates with a distance between the plates used are 15 cm. The loading is carried out by applying compressive loads in accordance with the ASTM D-1143. The test results show that the bearing capacity of the pile resulting from the use of a helical plate with a uniform thread diameter of 6 cm, 8 cm, and 10 cm show a bearing capacity of 1.375 kN, 1.715 kN, and 2.626 kN, and ununiform helical pile configuration U-6810 and U-1086 of 2.206 kN and 2.146 kN. When compared with pile with diameter 1.5 cm, the resulting bearing capacity of piles increases 861.5% - 1736,4%. Meanwhile, when compared to plain piles with a pile tip diameter equal to the diameter of the helical plate, there is increase of 44% -64%.
