Abstract

Clay soil is easily reacted to water so that the characteristic of clay soil can change depending on water content. Clay soil in dry condition will be shrinked while in wet condition it will be swollen. One of the solution of clay soil that have low bearing capacity is soil stabilization. This research used Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) which is one of the soil stabilization method to improve bearing capacity of soil. DSM was done by making single column of the clay soil and 6% rice husk ash (RHA) with a certain dimention. DSM Column was conducted in the box sized (210.100.100) cm. There are 6 variation of diameter and length of columns, 3 variation with same length (L = 75 cm) and different diameter (8, 10, 12) cm and also 3 variation with same diameter (d= 8 cm) and different length (60, 67, 75) cm. Static load test was done on original soil and soil with DSM column to know bearing capacity of the two. The result of the test showed the biggest diameter and the longest length of DSM column has maximum bearing capacity which is 47,33 kN/m2. Meanwhile the smallest diameter and length of DSM column has minimum bearing capacity which is 30,67 kN/m2. The result of BCR (Bearing Capacity Ratio) showed the maximum bearing capacity occurred at DSM column with a diameter 12 cm and length 75 cm, it increased 80,51% from the original soil. Whereas the minimum bearing capacity occurred at DSM column with a diameter 8 cm and length 60 cm, it increased 16,97% from original soil.
