Abstract

Antibacterial is a substance can interfere with growth or even kill bacteria by disrupting harmful microbial metabolism, microorganisms can cause danger because of the ability to infect and cause disease. Robusta coffee leaf (Coffea canephora) alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, quinones, steroids/triterpenoids, and coumarin potentially as antibacterial. For improve effectiveness use extract ethanol coffee leaf as antibacterial on skin formulated gel preparation with substance active extract ethanol robusta coffee leaf. On gel formulation used HPMC 60SH as gelling agent with variation concentration by 3%, 5%, 7%. Gel is evaluated covers organoleptics, homogeneity, power sticky, power spread, power washed, pH, viscosity, and stability preparation. Influence increased concentration of HPMC 60SH take effect to decline power spread, power wash and pH as well enchancement on power sticky and viscosity. Total flavonoid level at extract ethanol showing values amounting to 112,093 mg/g or 11, 2093 %. The three formulas are tested antibacterial activity use wells method. The inhibitory zone generated by the gel with extract concentration of 3, 5, and 7% in a row is 5,741 ± 0,0688 mm, 5,810 ± 0,3125 and 6,421 ± 0,3057 mm gives weak antibacterial activity. Gel with 7% extract has the best antibacterial activity with inhibitory zone of 6,421 ± 0,3057 mm.
