Abstract

Pegagan duck is one type of poultry that can be used as a producer of eggs and meat. Performance is a very complex process that includes weight gain and growth. A good performance has a high body weight gain, high feed consumption and low feed conversion. Probiotics is one of the feed additives that contain non-pathogenic living microbes that can improve performance because probiotics can boost the function of the digestive tract by improving the balance of microflora in the intestine. This study aims to determine the effect of giving probiotics from Hymenache acutigluma silage to the performance of Pegagan duck. The study was conducted from June to August 2017 in experimental cages and in the Animal Feed and Nutrition Laboratory, Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used a completely randomized design (RAL) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. This research consisted of 5 treatments: P0 (control), P1 (probiotic with concentration 106 CFU/ml); P2 (probiotics with concentrations of 107 CFU/ml); P3 (probiotics with concentration of 108 CFU/ml); P4 (probiotics with concentration 109 CFU/ml). The observed variables include feed intake, body weight gain, and feed conversion. The result showed that the provision of probiotic from Hymenache acutigluma silage had significant effect (p <0.05) on feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion. The conclusion of this study is the provision of probiotics from Hymenache acutigluma silage with concentration of 109 is able to produce the most optimal performance of Pegagan ducks. In addition, the effect of probiotics began to appear in the third week of maintenance.
