Abstract

Coal mining with an open mining system produces acid mine drainage (AMD). AMD has a low pH value <4 which causes high metal solubility. AMD waste can be processed using the phytoremediation method with the wetland system. The phytoremediation process in AMD can make Eleocharis dulcis stress. The formation of AMD is caused by the oxidation of sulfide minerals present in rocks with oxygen and water so that it has a low pH <4 which causes high metal solubility. AMD waste can be treated by phytoremediation using the wetland system. The phytoremediation process in AMD can cause stress for E. dulcis. Adaptation response to AMD stress in E. dulcis. is the synthesis of citric acid and ascorbic acid as non-enzymatic antioxidants. This study aims to determine the content of citric acid and ascorbic acid in phytoremediation of acid mine drainage in the wetland conditions of PIT 07 Banko Barat. Convenience sampling methods are used for sampling. Measurement of Fe and Mn concentrations in AMD and sediments using atomic absorption spectrophotometry methods, as well as sulfur extraction in AMD by turbidity methods. Measurement of citric acid and ascorbic acid using the Uv-Vis spectrophotometry method. Analysis of the data used in the form of quantitative data for the measurement of pH, Fe, Mn, and sulfate levels and the ascorbic acid and citric acid data are presented in the analysis table of the standard deviation data centering. Based on research that has been done on E. dulcis. under the AMD wetland pressure, it is found that the content of citric acid is 124. 94 ppm and ascorbic acid 21 ppm in the roots. Then in the leaves the content of citric acid is 135 ppm and ascorbic acid 109 ppm. Then the pH at the inlet to the outlet increases, so that it matches the environmental quality standard (6.0). Fe and Mn metal concentrations in AMD also experienced a decrease from inlet to outlet. The concentration of Fe AMD at the outlet was 0 ppm and for Mn 5.29 ppm. Fe concentration at outlets has fulfilled environmental quality standards. However, Mn metals do not meet environmental quality standards. Wetland sediments obtained Fe concentration of 391.56 ppm and Mn of 28.56 ppm. Measurement content of citric acid and ascorbic acid as non-enzymatic antioxidants can be used as an adaptation response stressed to AMD.
