Abstract

The aims of the experiment was to determine the effect of coconut water on growth of melon explants. This research was conducted at Tissue Culture Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Palembang from July 2018 to september 2018. The method being used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was explant source, El= Leaf, E2= Hypocotyl and E3= Root. The second factor was MS medium with coconut water Vl = MS+ 100 ml/1 coconut water, V2= MS + 150 ml/1 coconut water, V3= MS + 200 ml/1 coconut water, and V 4= MS + coconut water 250 ml/1 coconut water. Explants were grown in the medium Murashige and Skoog (MS) with 12 combination treatments. Each treatment consisted of 20 units so the total would be 240 experimental units. The results showed that the media of 200 ml/1 of coconut water tended to influence the growth of melon explant.
