Abstract

The study was aimed to determine the effect of growth and yield of shallots with a combination of sulfur and oil palm biochar fertilizer. The study was carried out in Babat Supat sub-district, Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatera from March to May 2020. The seed used was Bima Brebes shallot variety. The treatment consisted of two factors. The first factor was oil palm biochar fertilizer consisting of B0 = control; B1 = 50 g/polybag; B2 = 100 g/polybag, and B3 = 150 g/polybag. The second factor was sulfur fertilizer with four dosage levels, namely: S0 = control; S1 = 0.72 g/polybag; S2 = 0.48 g/polybag; S3 = 0.24 g/polybag. This study used Factorial Randomized Block Design and data analysis using ANOVA and 5% LSD test. The observed variables were plant height, leaf number, tiller number, bulb number, bulb dry weight. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the treatment combination had a very significant effect on plant height in the first week, and on bulb diameter. Thus, the treatment of 150 g of biochar per polybag then was considered as the best treatment as it showed better performance on the growth and yield of shallots except on leaf number and tiller number.
