Abstract

This study aims to determine growth and production of F2 generation of hybrid sweet corn as compared to the original F1 generation. This research was conducted in farm-land are at Jl. Gang Lampung 1, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency starting from December 2019 to March 2020. The plants were planted in ear-to row pattern and utilized a Randomized Block Design (RBD), with 3 replications as blocks. The research consisted of two treatments, namely F1 (F1 hybrid sweet corn of varieties Bonanza) and F2 (Population of their F2 generation) . The parameters observed were plant height, ear length, ear diameter, ear weight with husk, weight of ear without husk, sugar content, preference test, number of seeds and weight of seeds. The results showed that the height of sweet maize at the age of 30 day after planting to 90 day after planting, ear length, ear diameter, weight of cob with husk and weight of cob without husk on sweet corn of F2 descent decreased significantly, whereas there was a non-significant decrease in plant height variables aged 20 day after planting, the height diversity value of plants aged 30 day after planting to 90 day after planting, the value of ear length variability, ear diameter, weight of cob with husk and weight of cob without husk. In addition, the results of the study also showed that sweet corn breeds F1 descendants had sweeter and higher sugar content and preferences for sweetcorns from F2 breeds.
