Abstract

The aim of this field study was to examine the characteristics of Duku (Lansium domesticum Corr.) plantation area from Lubuk Saung, Kayuara Kuning and Sukaraja, Banyuasin Regency. As a seasonal tropical frui4 the distribution of Duku is limited only in the Southeast Asia, i.e. Malaysia, China and Indonesia. Due to having a good taste, duku has become a superior and favourite commodity. One of the most famous cultivar duku in Indonesia is Duku-Palembang, which has thin-rind and sweet taste. Therefore, Duku-Palembang has become the identical plant of South Sumatera. Land-characteristic is an important trait to evaluate in order to acquire the supreme variety of duku. Several superior duku cultivars had distinct land characteristics for both soil conditions and the vegetation. Soil nutrient of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium contained in the soil at Kayuara Kuning and Sukaiaja were -higher than at Lubuk Saung. While, the soil textures were sandy clay loam for Lubuk Saung and loam for Kayuara Kuning and Sukaraja certain plant. Weeds on Lubuk Saung was dominated by Borreria alata, on Kayuara Kuning and Sukaraja was dominated by Melastoma sp. Nevertheless, the three Iocatios still had similar cultivation pattern.
