Abstract

Hospital activities can produce various kinds of waste, one of which is medical solid waste. Based on observations, in carrying out treatment of medical solid waste the hospital no longer uses an incinerator known as a tool to destroy medical waste. This study aims to analyze the management of medical solid waste in hospitals. This research method uses qualitative methods with an observational approach and document review. The informants of this study consisted of two key informants and twelve ordinary informants. Data validity test uses source triangulation, data triangulation and method triangulation. The results showed that the medical waste minimization efforts carried out by the hospital are reduction in the form, sorting, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, clean technology, and management of chemical and pharmaceutical preparations as well as the utilization of reuse and recycle. In handling medical solid waste, there is still a mismatch, namely the unavailability of a special lane for transporting waste. The storage place has a permit but is not equipped with a sign prohibiting entry and the waste officer is not disciplined about the use of personal protective equipment. Based on this research it can be concluded that the management of medical solid waste in Pertamina Palembang Hospital is quite good but not in accordance with Regulation No. 7 of 2019 so that improvements must be made.
