Abstract

Neonatal mortality is a contributor to infant mortality in indicators of the nation's welfare and health status. One of the SDGs goals is to reduce the neonatal mortality rate to 12 deaths per 1000 live births. Complications during pregnancy are one of the risk factors for neonatal mortality due to stunted fetal growth and growth. This study aims to determine the relationship between pregnancy and neonatal mortality. This study used a cross sectional design and used secondary data for the 2017 IDHS with a sample of 8,461 mothers. The inclusion criteria of this study were women aged 15-49 years who had been pregnant and used pregnancy data and the last criteria for exclusion. The results of the analysis showed that 1.7% of mothers experienced neonatal mortality. Bivariate analysis showed that there was no relationship between pregnancy and neonatal mortality (p-value = 0.997). Meanwhile, the multivariate analysis shows that there is no relationship between pregnancy and neonatal mortality after being controlled by the birth assistant variable.
