Abstract

Background Unconsciousness occurs as a result of trauma, ischemia, hemorrhagic or metabolic disorders that directly or indirectly interfere ARAS. 803 out of 1027 patients entered the emergency room due to CUE (Coma of unknown etiology) with the mortality rate varying around 25-87%. The most common etiology is ischemic-hemorrhagic stroke (6-54%). Coma due to stroke after anoxia has the highest mortality rate. The description of patient characteristics varies with etiology and can predict patient outcome. This study aims to determine the profile of patients with decreased consciousness in HCU Method: This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional study design using secondary data. The research sample was obtained using a total sampling method with a sample of 64 who were patients with decreased consciousness in the HCU RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin for the period 2019-2020 Results: The majority of patients were male (62.5%), >= 50 years old (73.4%), occupational house wife (32.8%) and residing in Palembang (50%). The greatest etiology is vascular (45.3%). The majority of vital sign characteristics were hypertension (68.7%), normal pulse and RR (65.6% and 64.1%) and normal temperature (96.8%). The majority neurological examination were found to be GCS 7-9 (37.5%), isochore pupils with positive reflexes (92.18% and 85.9%), normal eyeballs (92.18), no seizures (81.3%) ), positive pathological reflex (65.6%) and experienced spastic quardiparese (42.18%). The majority of the characteristics of the investigations found leukocytosis (35.9%), shift to the left (79.7%), increased liver function, kidney function and sugar, respectively 54.6%, 75% and 65.6%, hyperchloremia. (35.9%) and hyperdense hemorrhagic lesions (45.31%). The majority of patients died (81.23%) with length of stay <2 weeks (70.3%). Conclusion: Most of the unconscious patients at HCU were men, >= 50 years old and house wife. Most of the samples had hypertension with normal pulse, RR and temperature. The majority of the samples had GCS 7-9, isochore pupils, positive reflex, normal eyeball, no convulsions, positive pathological reflexes and spastic quardiparese. The results of investigations showed that majority had leukocytosis, shift to the left, increased liver, kidney and sugar function, hyperchloremia with hemorrhagic hyperdense lesions. The majority of the samples died with length of stay <2 weeks. Key words: Patients Profile, Loss of Consciousness, High Care Unit
