Abstract

ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SLEEP DISTURBANCE AND IMMUNE STATUS OF FK UNSRI’S MEDICAL STUDENT (Fafirra Lail Fasha, December 2020, 100 pages) Sriwijaya University Faculty of Medicine Background: Sleep is a human physiological requirement that is important for body repair and has a strong regulatory effect on immune function. Sleep disturbance can happen to anyone, including medical students. Medical students mostly use sleep time to study or complete tasks that cause sleep deprivation. Sleep disturbances can increase the risk of a person's immunity status so that they are susceptible to disease. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between sleep disorders and the immunity status of medical students of FK UNSRI class of 2017. Method: This was a observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach that uses primary data from the Sleep Disorders Symptom Checklist (SDS-CL) and Immune Status Questionnaire (ISQ). In this study, a total sampling technique was used and there were 201 respondents. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS version 25 program. Result: The result obtained that 136 (67.7%) students experienced sleep disorders. Narcolepsy is the most common type of sleep disorder (27.2%). Students who experience sleep disorders are predominantly female (66.2%) and live with their parents (52.9%). Analysis using the Somers' d test showed that there was a significant relationship (p<α) between variations in sleep disorders and immunity status with a very weak correlation (0,113). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between variations in sleep disorders and immunity status with a very weak correlation. Keywords : Sleep Disorders, Medical Students, Immunity Status.
