Abstract

Background: The development of sophisticated technology makes dynamic changes to static activities that affect all ages, one of them is students. The development of technology changed the lifestyle into a sedentary lifestyle occurrence of changed daily physical activity coupled with a fairly dense student routine. Changes in physical activity are one of the factors in the change in physical fitness in students. Method: This study was of research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional study using a sample of 2017 students. The instrument used was the International Physical Questionnaire (IPAQ) questionnaire to measure physical activity and the Harvard Step Test to measure physical fitness. Result: Of the 53 students, it has found that 30 students (56.6%) had low levels of physical activity and 45 students (84.9%) had low levels of physical fitness. The results of the Chi-Square test showed that the value of P = 0.015 <0.05, which means that there is a significant relationship between physical activity and physical fitness, and the table shows that the OR = 12,688, which means that students who lack physical activity have a risk of 12,688 times experiencing decreased physical fitness. Conclusion: The majority of the student of class 2017 have low levels of physical activity and low levels of physical fitness. There is a relationship between physical activity and physical fitness in students of the Medical Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University.
