Abstract

Background: Globally, there is an increase in the incidence of congenital heart disease (CHD) from year to year. CHD is a malformation of the cardiovascular system that is present at birth. The incidence of CHD has a variety of characteristics that differ in each region. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the profile of CHD sufferers in Dr. Moh. Hoesin Palembang General Hospital (RSMH). Methods: The type of this research is a descriptive observational research, by looking at the medical record data of CHD patients in KSM pediatric of RSMH Palembang. Samples were taken using total sampling method. Result: The results of this study, obtained data as many as 1222 children with CHD, but only 1118 children who met the research criteria. Based on the characteristics of the subject, it was found that the most groups detected CHD were age ≥1 year (53.8%), female gender (50.4%) and the type of acyanotic CHD (80.9%). Based on the distribution of CHD types, the most common types were patent ductus arteriosus (24.3%) in the acyanotic group, and tetralogy of fallot (10%) in the cyanotic group. Complications of CHD consisted of malnutrition (31.4%), heart failure (17%), pulmonary hypertension (12.3%), infective endocarditis (0.8%), and brain abscess (0.2%). Conclusion: The profile of CHD in RSMH Palembang that more CHD subjects were detected at ≥1 year old, were female, malnutrision, and more have the acynotic type of CHD. Based on the distribution of CHD types, PDA was the largest type in the acyanotic group, and TOF in the cyanotic group. Based on the type of complications, malnutrition is the most common complication. Keywords: Congenital heart disease, CHD, profile, nutritional status, complications
