Abstract

Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome is peripheral compression of the median nerve at the level of the wrist joint. Carpal tunnel syndrome characterized by pain in the hand, numbness, and tingling with the most common sensation that can be felt in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and 1/2 ring finger on the radial side. Carpal tunnel syndrome is more prevalent among people with occupations that involve monotonous wrist activity and forceful maneuvers, such as ojek online drivers. This study aims to measure the spread of events carpal tunnel syndrome among ojek online driver in Palembang city based on the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire. Method: This study was conducted in categorical descriptive observational from October 2020 until November 2020. The population of this study was ojek online driver in Palembang city with 60 respondents who meet the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. The data was taken from a questionnaire through the google form and In-person interviews. Results: The spread of events carpal tunnel syndrome among ojek online driver in Palembang city was 76.6%. The majority experienced complaints on the right side of 40%, on the left 6.7%, and bilateral 30%. Symptom severity scale of the mild degree was 58.3%, moderate 15%, severe 3.4%, and asymptomatic 23.3%. Functional status scale mild degree was 33.3% and asymptomatic 66.7%. Conclusion: The majority of ojek online drivers in Palembang city had experienced symptoms related to CTS was 76.6% with complaints on the right side of 40%, on the left 6.7%, and bilateral 30%.
