Abstract

Background: Sinonasal carcinoma is a malignant tumours of epithelial origin arising in nasal cavity and paranasal sinus. This malignancy comprise only 3% of all head and neck malignancy and ranks second most frequent after nasopharyngeal carcinoma. This study aims to determine the characteristics of patients with sinonasal carcinoma in ENT-HN Departement RSUP Dr.Mohammad Hoesin Palembang within period July 2016-June 2020. Method: This study was a descriptive observasional study using secondary data in the form of medical records of patients with sinonasal carcinoma in ENT-HN Departement RSUP Dr.Mohammad Hoesin Palembang within periode July 2016-June 2020, taken by total sampling method. Result: 74 samples in this study included, of them 49 were man and 25 were woman with a ratio between men and woman 1,9:1. Most commonly found by the age group 51-60 year (37,8%) and farmers (31,1%). Smoking history (37.8%) and no smoking history (62.2%). The most common complaint was nasal obstruction 54,1% with the most histopathological was squamous cell carcinoma (59.5%). The most common size of primary tumour, lymph node involvement, and distant metastasis were T4 (74.3%), N0 (71.6%), and M0 (94.6%). Based on the TNM staging system, most of them came in stage IV (77%) and stage III (18,9%) so surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy were the most treatment obtained by the patient (56.8%). Conclusion: Sinonasal carcinoma patients in ENT-HN departement RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang were most commonly found in men, age group 51-60 years, farmer workers, had no history of smoking habits, complained nasal obstruction, squamous cell carcinoma, size of primary tumour T4, lymph node involvement N0, distant metastasis M0, patients with stage IV, and treatment combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
