Abstract

Background: Enterococcus faecalis bacteria are Gram positive bacteria was found in the root canals of infected. Kepok banana peel is part of a banana that has active ingredients, such as tannin, saponin, and flavonoid. The active ingredient is able to inhibit the growth of bacteria, Stapylococcus aureus. Natural ingredients of Kepok banana peel extract which contain secondary metabolites want to be known as antibacterials against Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. Method: An in vitro study with a post-test only control group design using Kepok banana extract (Musa paradisiaca linn.) With a concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 2% chlorhexidine was used as a positive control with six repetitions. Antibacterial testing uses the well diffusion method. The inhibition zone seen after 24 hours of incubation at 37oC was measured using a digital caliper. Data analysis used Anova test and Games-Howell test. Results: There were significant differences between all groups and control (p<0,05). The higher concentration shown larger mean inhibitory zone formed. Conclusion: Kepok banana peel extract has the highest antibacterial potency against Enterococcus faecalis at a concentration of 40%, but that is expected no to have a significant difference with chlorhexidine 2%.
