Abstract

South Sumatera is the sixth largest province in Indonesia with a total length of road are around 1513.65 km. This road will require an increase in quality when it has been used for a long time. One of them is to use additive called rejuvenating agent into Recycled Asphalt Binder (RAB). The purpose of this study was obtaining the physical and chemical characteristics of the RAB and rejuvenating agent. This study is using three materials which are RAB and two types of rejuvenating agent (RA-1and RA-2). Then, the rejuvenating agent was carried out to short-term aging to determine the effect of it to rejuvenating agent which is called as RA-1 SA and RA-2 SA. The characteristics of the five materials were tested using a Rotational Viscometer, Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) and Fourier transform – Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy. Based on the research findings, it is known that the viscosity value of RAB is 65690 cp, while for RA-1 and RA-2 are 463.5 and 3094 cp. For the trend resulting from DSR testing, the rutting parameter value will decrease in RA-1 and increase in RA-2 after short-term aging is implemented. For chemical characteristics, after calculating the index, it is known that the five materials in this study contain a lot of aliphatic and aromatic compounds.
