Abstract

Population prediction is carried out in an effort to determine the population in the future. Because the population in the future is not easy to know with certainty, this research predicts the population using artificial neural networks with the backpropagation algorithm, because it can project the population in the future based on time series data in previous periods. The advantage of the backpropagation algorithm is that it has high accuracy. The level of error in this study was measured using MAPE. Based on testing in predicting population numbers in Musi Rawas Regency using the backpropagation algorithm with architectural test designs 13-7-1, 13-14-1 and 13-27-1 with a learning rate of 0.1; 0.3; 0.5; 0.7 to 14 data using data for 15 years, the best results are obtained in testing the 13-7-1 architecture, with 13 input nodes, 7 hidden nodes, and 1 output, and a learning rate of 0.1 which gives MAPE value of 0.519% with an accuracy of 99.48%.
