Abstract
In this research, polymers will be used as raw material for making polyethersulfone membranes. The character of a membrane is known from the characteristics of the membrane which can determine the effectiveness and efficiency of a membrane made in the presence of test parameters. In this research, the parameters used were tensile testing, microstructure and membrane permeability. The membrane was made with 3 comparison fractions on the composition (% of total weight), the polymer material mixture was different at each specimen concentration, namely, 30%, 32.5%, and 35%, with the addition of titanium dioxide (TiO2) with 1% of polymer weight and N, N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent. From the tensile strength using the ZWICK ROEL Material Testing Machine showed an increase in the value of tensile strength start from 2.62 Mpa at a concentration of 30%, 3.01 Mpa at a concentration of 32.5% and 3.49 Mpa at a concentration of 35%. For microstructure observations using Scanning Electron Microscopy, pore diameters varied, for sizes 2,099 μm to 4,085 μm at a concentration of 30%, 784.1 nm to a size of 2,720 μm at a concentration of 32.5% and 524.5 nm to 1,691 μm at a concentration of 35%. For the membrane permeability ability at a pressure of 1 bar using Permeability Testing Tool, namely at a concentration of 30% 44.22332781 L.m-2.j-1, for a concentration of 32.5% 33.16749585 L.m-2.j-1, and for a concentration of 35% 22.1116639 L.m-2.j-1.
