Abstract

Indonesia has various environmental problems, which until now have not been properly resolved. One of the environmental problems in Indonesia is waste disposal. With the increase in population, the waste produced is also getting bigger, therefore efforts are needed in waste management in a certain area to be able to solve the problem. One of the most effective treatments for the problem of solid waste is by setting up temporary waste disposal site (TPS). This is expected to be a solution to reduce the amount of waste and the burden on landfill, thereby facilitating the handling of solid waste in the TPA. This research is intended to plan a temporary waste disposal site (TPS) in Talang Kelapa Village, Palembang City both in terms of management and infrastructure based on the rate of waste generation and characteristics. Waste management at TPS uses 3R system (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle). The amount of waste generation and composition is taken based on SNI-19-3964-1994, by analyzing waste from residents activities. This research is also conducted to plan the TPS facility and infrastructure needs in the next 10 years. In planning TPS for the next 10 years, population projection is necessary. The result of this research show that population projection will increase for the next 10 years. With the increase in population, the amount of waste generation will also increase based on the result of the estimated waste generation rate. From the result of TPS planning for the next 10 years, the existing conditions at the TPS are loading and unloading areas, sorting areas, enumeration areas, composting areas, composting sheds, 3R warehouse, craft rooms and others. The final result of this research is the layout and need for 3R facilities in the TPS Talang Kelapa Village, Palembang city.
