Abstract

Determination of a good landfill design is very important to reduce the occurrence of landfill landslides. One of the important factors that influence landfill sliding is the parameter of landfill shear strength. Landfill shear strength parameters include cohesion and internal shear angle. To get the shear strength parameter value in this study using a modified direct shear test tool with the uncosolidated undrained method, the sample used is saturated artificial waste (100% dried leaves waste) to describe the condition of landfills in Indonesia which is dominated by organic waste. Other tests to determine the occurrence of the waste change (degradation) process in landfills include testing of physical and chemical properties. Changes in the physical and chemical conditions of waste that occur in landfills over time (degradation) will affect the parameters. The value of the shear strength parameter of organic waste along with the degradation process shows that the internal shear angle value will decrease due to the degradation process, while the cohesion value of the waste increases due to the degradation process.
