Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the percentage of composite matrix metal material resulting from the stir casting process on the corrosion rate. In this research, it concerns the strengthening of metal composite materials using the forging process method, then the corrosion test, metallography and XRD tests are carried out. Corrosion testing was carried out using the Total Immers method, the calculation results obtained with the highest corrosion rate value were for 20% forged specimens and immersed for 30 days because the more reduction was done, the higher the value of the corrosion rate, this happened because the experiencing residual stress (internal energy) that is greater than the other parts will become anode and will be more heavily corroded. For metallographic testing, it can be indicated that with a lot of forging, the grain boundaries are tighter than the unforged specimens. From the XRD testing of compounds that appear in corrosion products after immersing in NaCl solution for 10 days, 20 days and 30 days, namely Aluminum, periclase and Fe2O3, from the XRD measurement profile it is found that a sharp peak line indicates this material has a crystal structure and has peak peaks. diffraction at 2 theta angle, namely 38.26; 44.22; 64.61; 77.89 with the successive intensity of 291, 135, 48 and 58
