Abstract

Background: The Family Planning Service is one of the many benefits of the JKN, which is one of our nation’s effort in slowing the population’s growth rate in Indonesia by using the contraceptive method. This study aims to determine the profile of the contraceptive method in the JKN-BPJS era at the Puskesmas Merdeka Palembang for the period January 2018 - December 2019. Method: This paper is a qualitative descriptive research, utilizing primary data acquired through interviews informants, and secondary data, taken from the Merdeka Palembang Government Clinic database of contraceptive users in the period of the 1st of January 2018 through the 30th of December 2019, only which that fullfilled the inclusion criteria. Results: Out of the 255 data samples, 184 (72.1%) were participants of the JKN-BPJS government health insurance program. 201 women (78.8%) used contraceptive injectables, 22 women (8.6%) used contraceptive pills, 17 women used IUDs (6.7%), 13 (5.1%) used contraceptive implants, and 2 (0.8%) used condoms as their contraceptive method of choice. Within the data samples of each contraceptive method, the 20-35 age group comprised 62.2 % injectible contraceptive users, 70.6% of IUD users, 69.2% of contraceptive implant users, and 100% of condom users. In Contraceptive pills method, it was found that the 20 - 35 years age group was equal to > 35 years. Number of contraceptive method users based on parity, in the multiparous group are 144 in injectables (71.6%), 17 in pills (77.3%), 12 in IUD (70.6%), 8 in Implant (61.5%), and 2 in condoms (100%). Most contraceptive methods based on education, are having high school education with the majority choosing injectables contraceptive (71.1%). The majority of users of each contraceptive method did not have a job, 132 in injectables contraceptive (65.7%), followed by 14 in IUD (82.4%), and 9 in Implant (69.2%). In Contraceptive pills, there were 14 samples (63.6%) who had jobs and there were 50% in each condoms samples. Conclusion: The most commonly used contraceptive method are injectables. The majority of contraceptive injectable users were participants of the JKN-BPJS program, were in the 20-35 age group, had previously given birth to 2-4 children, earned the maximum of a high school diploma, and had no occupation.
