Abstract

This research purpose for indentifying peatland area located in OganKomeringIlir, Sumatera Selatan with the concept of remote sensing by using Landsat 8 OLI (Operational Land Imager). This research is tested with some steps, such as image pre-processing, image processing of NDVI, visual image interpretation, classification image and accuracy testing. Maximum likelihood classification which method that is used in this research by making use of NDVI image as training data. The Landsat 8 image should be processed before processing named pre-processing to improve image quality before and post-processing afterward. Post-processing, that is tested by using maximum likelihood classification and peatland as identifying object which considered its area. By using that method it got 764,950.4 hectare of peatland area with overall accuracy it got 89.6% and kappa statistic 0.897. Keywords:Remote Sensing; NDVI; Maximum likelihood Classification.
