Abstract

This experiment were performed to examine the effects of Ochratoxin A on growth and development of foetuses skeletal in pregnant mice at 7th-14 days of gestation. Twenty four pregnant mice were divided randomly into 4 groups of 6. Ochratoxin A was disolved in sodium bicarbonat and administrated per oral on seventh to fifteenth days of gestation. Ochratoxin A was given orally at dosage of 0,5; 1,0 ; 1,50 mg/kg body weigth, respectively. The remaining animals were used as controls. At eighteenth days of gestations, the pregnant mice were sacrificed and caesarian sectioned to remove the foetuses. Foetuses skeletal growth and development were observed grosslly using Alcian Blue-Alizarin Red S stain. Result of these studies indicated ochratoxin A given to the pregnant mice at the 7th-14 days of gestation caused retardation of the average number of osteon component (segment) of sternum, metacarpalia, metatarsalia and vertebrae caudalis.
