Abstract

Introduction. Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver. This condition can resolve on its own or it can progress to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis or liver cancer. Viral hepatitis is the world's most common cause of hepatitis from other infections, toxic substances such as alcohol, certain drugs and autoimmune diseases can also cause hepatitis. The most common route of transmission is the perinatal route in Asian countries and the horizontal route during childhood in African countries. Other routes of transmission include transfusion of infected blood, contaminated injection, sharing needles with injection drug users, unsafe sexual practices and intrafamilial transmission involving non-sexual interpersonal contact over a long period of time. It is important to know how the knowledge, attitudes and practice of the general public about hepatitis B. Method. This type of research is a descriptive observational study using a cross sectional study design using primary data from common people in the city of Palembang processed using SPSS 2.0 Result. The results for this study are primary data obtained through a questionnaire filled out by common people about diseases, especially hepatitis B. There are 85 respondents who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria who participated in this study. Conclusion. Of the 85 respondents who filled out the questionnaire, there were 75 (88.2%) respondents who had good knowledge, 65 (76.5%) respondents had good attitudes, and 20 (23.5%) had good practices about hepatitis B.
