Abstract

The availability of mineral oil derived from petroleum as transformer oil insulation can run out at any time, so it is necessary to look for alternatives transformer oil insulation derived from vegetable oil, one of them is virgin coconut oil (VCO). There have been many studies related to breakdown voltage testing that specifically discuss about VCO. However, studies PDIV of VCO are still lacking. This study added Al2O3 nanoparticles to VCO with concentrations of 0% (pure), 0.025%, and 0.050%. The purpose of this research is to see the effect of adding Al2O3 on Partial Discharge Inception Voltage (PDIV) testing using a needle-plane electrode, PDIV charge quantity, moisture content, and viscosity value. VCO that has been given nanoparticles Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) is given the treatment that is tested on the sample without heated, after being heated at 60 and 120 degreess for 4 hours. The effect of the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles has a positive impact on the average value of PDIV, the value of the charge, the value of the moisture content, and the viscosity at the heated sample. From the test results, the VCO with a concentration of 0.050% has an increase in PDIV value and has decreased the PDIV charge quantity, the water content and viscosity are the most stable to be compared to other test samples.
