Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of retinoic acid on fetal development of mice during the period of organogenesis. Twenty-four pregnant mice were randomly divided into six treatment groups with 4 replicates. Retinoic acid was dissolved in 0.3 ml of olive oilinjected by subcutan administrationon gestation days of 6. The Doses of retinoic acid treatment were 40; 60; 80; 100 mg/kgbw and the treatment of the untreated control group and the comparison group treated with olive oil solvent. The pregnant mice were maintained up to 18 days of gestation. On gestation day of 18, the pregnant mice were killed by dislocation of the neck, dilaparatomie, cut the uterus, fetal resorp observe, count the number of live and dead fetuses, fetuses weighing, and visual observation to see the defects that occur in mice. The datas on the number of observations mentioned above were analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan's test to determine significant difference between treatments. The results showed that retinoic acid given to pregnant mice on days of 6 pregnancy influence on fetal development of mice were characterized by the decline in the number of live fetuses, fetal body weight and an increased in fetal death and fetal resorp, compared with the control and treatment.
