Abstract

This research was conducted to study the potency of the use of azolla compost and rice-husk charcoal on the availability of P nutrient and the growth of rice plant (Oriza sativa L.) in swampy soil. An experiment has been conducted in net house and the Laboratory of Soil Science Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from December 2016 to May 2017. The experiment was arranged according to Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results showed that the application of azolla compost and rice-husk charcoal into the soil could independently and significantly affect the availability of P nutrient. The best application of azolla compost was found on the dose of 15 tones ha-1 (75 g 10 kg soil-1) with average value of 19.81 mg kg-1, while the best application of rice-husk charcoal was found in the dose of 15 tones ha-1 (75 g kg soil-1) with average value of 16.16 mg kg-1. The pH levels of the soil after being given the treatment of azolla and composting the caff charcoal are best obtained from a combination dose of compost azolla 15 tones ha-1 (75 g 10 kg soil-1) and a dose of charcoal husk 15 tones ha-1 (75 g 10 kg soil-1) pH value of 4.49. The content of organic C was lower after the application of azolla compost and ricehusk charcoal. The decrease of organic C might be caused by leaching process when excessive rain water left the pots and took organic C out of the pots. The highest content of organic C was 0.90% found in the combination of 15 tones ha-1 (75 g 10 kg soil-1) of azolla compost and 0 tones ha-1 (0 g 10 kg soil-1). The applicationof azolla compost and rice husk charcoal insignificantly affect the percentage of full grains and the percentage of empty grains. Key words : rice-husk charcoal, azolla compost, swampy soil, rice plant (Oryza sativa L.), phosphor nutrient.
