Abstract

This research has purpose to determine the depositional environment that occurs throughout the Early Miocene to Middle Miocene of the Baturaja Formation and Gumai Formation. The research location is in Bandar Jaya Area, Ogan Komering Ulu, South Sumatra with coordinates 40 32' 29.1” LS 1040 05' 13.7 BT and 40 27' 37”.1 LS 1040 10' 07.2” BT. The method used is with deskriptive analysis with paleontological sample, four samples were picked systematically in a section line of Hompam River and has preparation with H2O2 to separate the foraminifera from the substrate. Paleobatimetry determination of the area itself uses a comparison of planktonic foraminifera and small bentonic foraminifera. The Baturaja Formation is the initial phase of transgression in the South Sumatra Basin which has a transition-neritic bathymetric zone. The Gumai Formation around the Tuba and Hompam Rivers is estimated to be in the neritic-batial bathymetry zone and is the highest transgression phase in the South Sumatra Basin. The bathymetry zone determination was carried out based on the analysis of the bentonic foraminifera fossils therein. Where the existence of Monalysidium politum shows the neritic environment and the existence of Cibicides robertsonianus shows the batial environment.
