Abstract

ABSTRACT Red spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L.) is one type of vegetable commodity that began to be in great demand by the public because of its high antioxidant content. Productivity of red spinach can increase if planted in land conditions with high organic content, availability of nutrients and of course good watering conditions. Water management can appropriately support the water needs of plants and crop production activities to be optimal. One of the irrigation systems for vegetable plantation activities is drip irrigation system. This study aimed to determine the water needs of plants on the growth of red spinach with deficit drip system irrigation installation. This study used experimental methods compiled on a complete Randomized Design pattern (RAL) non-factorial. The treatment used is the difference in the amount of water given to red spinach plants (100%, 90% and 80%) the frequency of water feeding time (at 07:00 AM and 16:00 PM), with repeated treatment seven times. The conclusion of this research is that the pattern of giving water has no significant effect on red spinach plants, so that the lowest water deficit (80%) can be done to increase the efficiency of water used. The highest water used efficiency was found in the A3 treatment with the amount of plant water application of 80%, that is 3.9 g / mm and the growth results of red spinach plant the highest was 63.8 cm in A1 treatment (giving water 100%) with the highest production yield of plants was found in treatment A1 is 128.1 g. As for suggestions based on the results of this study, if you want to carry out further research, it is recommended to use different types of plants by providing a measurable deficit water in order to obtain the best water deficit for each type of plant.
