Abstract

Activities from fish farming activities to increase the concentration of N and P nutrients from fish food scraps have the potential to reduce water quality. When the concentration of these elements is high it can result in eutrophication. Therefore, we need a way to reduce the population explosion of algae, one way that can be used is by applying the Constructed Wetland system using Phragmittes karka plants with different retention times, so it is necessary to do research to see the effect of retention time on improving the quality of pool water in the system. Constructed Wetland using Phragmites Karka in reducing the number of algal cells on a laboratory scale. This study used an experimental method, using a retention time of 20 hours, 40 hours and 100 hours. The results showed that the number of algae cells in the effluent sample with a retention time of 20 hours had the smallest efficiency of 24.13%, while the 100 hours retention time using plants had the highest average efficiency of 89.65%. Algae chlorophyll levels with retention times of 20 hours and 40 hours decreased in the effluent value and increased in efficiency by 40.01% and 51.25%, respectively. Meanwhile, at the retention times of 100 hours and 100 hours * without plants, the effluent value increased by 3,557 and 8,357 µg / L, with an average efficiency decreasing by 81.6% and 55.51%.
