Abstract

Background : Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) is one of congenital heart disease that most of the case occured in children. There are some risk factors that may increase the probability of VSD, such as maternal age, maternal illness history, gender, and genetic disorder. This research is perform to look for the association between risk factors and the incidence of VSD. Method : This study is cross-sectional. The population in this study were all pediatric patients treated at RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from 2014-2016 recorded in the medical record. Samples were taken from 60 patients hospitalized child and maintain roads, selected through purposive sampling technique. 60 treated pediatric patients divided into 25 pediatric patients with VSD and 35 pediatric patients with other diseases were found. Result: The result of Chi-Square Test showed that from the four risk factors studied, the results obtained for maternal age (p = 0.430), history of maternal disease (p = 0.290), gender (p = 0.008) and genetic abnormalities (p = 0.513). Then, the results of the analysis also show the Odd Ratio data for gender (OR = 4,352). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sex and VSD events, but other variables do not have significant relationship to VSD events. And from the results of the analysis, if pregnant women ≥35 years, there is a history of maternal illness, male sex, and other genetic disorders are more likely to have children with disorders such as VSD.
