Abstract

Drug abusers have the risk for oral disorder, such as chronic periodontitis. Chronic periodontitis could induced the mastication, speech, and esthetic disfunction. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of chronic periodontitis and analyze the risk factors for the occurrence of chronic periodontitis in drug abuser of Kayu Agung Correctional Institution. This study was an observational with cross-sectional design. The population of this study were inmates with narcotic case in Kayu Agung Correctional Institution. Sampling was conducted with simple random sampling and total sample of 147 people. Data analysis using chi-square test and binary logistic regression. The result of this study shows the occurence of chronic periodontitis is 67,3%. Risk factors that influenced the occurrence of chronic periodontitis are oral hygiene (OR: 100,32) and smoking (OR: 21,575). The occurrence of chronic periodontitis could be intervened by providing knowledge of oral hygiene care and the effect of smoke for oral health in drug abusers.
