Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease. One of the causes is high levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. One of these needs to be overcome by doing a brown rice diet. This study aims to determine changes in LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels after dieting with brown rice in hypertensive patients. This type of research is quantitative using the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample in this study were 12 people with hypertension in the city of Tanjung Pandan who were taken by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed by univariate analysis, namely to determine the average levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides before and after dieting with brown rice in hypertensive patients and bivariate analysis to determine differences in LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels before and after dieting with brown rice in hypertensive patients. The results of the Paired T-Test analysis showed that there was no difference in LDL cholesterol levels before and after dieting with brown rice, which showed a p value of 0.417 (p > 0.05). The results of the Paired T-Test analysis showed that there was no difference in Triglyceride levels before and after dieting with brown rice, which showed a p value of 0.790 (p > 0.05). Based on the average levels of LDL and triglycerides before and after dieting with brown rice, it decreased. Therefore, respondents can combine the brown rice diet with other foods and must also maintain a healthy diet. Community nurses can use this research as a reference to introduce the benefits of brown rice to the public.
