Abstract

This thesis observes the results of tests that have been carried out at the Electrical Energy and Safety Laboratory of Sriwijaya University regarding the comparison of the value of the breakdown voltage in insulation materials.Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) and thermoplastic Polycarbonate (PC) insulation material which is treated in the form of immersion in condensate water. The objective obtained by treating the condensate water on the material is to determine the aging and dielectric resistance when give voltage stress. The time variation condensate water immersion carried out on PC and PTFE insulation materials 1 day, 2 day, 3 day and 8 day hours with a water volume of 150ml. Samples were cut to a size of 5cm x 5cm which has a thickness of 0.3 mm with a needle-plate electrode system. The results of the test show that by immersing the condensate water it can reduce the PDIV and VBD values in the insulation material, because the condensate water it can reduce the resistance performance of the material to withstand the voltage stress applied to the insulation material. This is because the immersion in condensate water can reduce the resistivity and thermal conductivity properties which are worse than PC and PTFE without immersion treatment. The long immersion time can worsen the insulating material such as PC + 8 day and PTFE 8 day, this happens because with a long period of time it can worsen the material.
