Abstract

Nowdays the corona virus or Covid-19 is most pandemic in the world. In accordance with this situation it is very important to always adhere to health protocols as well as maintain a healthy and clean lifestyle. Judging from these conditions, consumers are very concerned about the impact of Covid-19, both from health and economic perspective. Fruits and vegetables have a role in fulfilling the nutritional quality of the community. The objectives of this study were (1) to analyze the behavior of fruit and vegetable consumers with an analysis approach to the decision-making process by consumers during the Covid-19 pandemic in Palembang City (2) to describe and calculate the value of consumption and expenditure of fruit and vegetable consumption in the pre-pandemic period and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Palembang City (3) analyzed the factors that influenced the consumption of fruits and vegetables during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Palembang City. Data collection activities were carried out in November 2020 in Palembang City. The research method used in this study was a survey method using google form as a medium for distributing questionnaires. The method used in sampling in this study was purposive sampling. Data collection methods were primary and secondary data. Consumer behavior seen from the decision-making process for purchasing fruit and vegetables during the Covid-19 pandemic through stages, namely; recognition of needs, information seeking, evaluation of alternatives, decision making, post purchase behavior. In the period before the pandemic, the types of mango fruit and vegetable kale were the most popular fruits and vegetables and during the pandemic the types of citrus fruits and spinach were the most popular. There have been changes in the consumption of fruits and vegetables in the period before the pandemic and during the Covid-19 pandemic. The average family expenditure in the pre-pandemic period for fruit was IDR 36,458.33 per month and IDR 22,425.00 for vegetables per month, while the average expenditure during the pandemic period for fruit was IDR 47,533.33 per month and for vegetables IDR 35. 608.33 per month. The variables of income, education, number of family members, motivation, location, and occupation simultaneously affect fruit and vegetable consumption expenditures during the Covid-19 pandemic. The variables of education, number of family members, motivation and work partially had a significant effect on expenditure on fruit and vegetable consumption during the Covid-19 pandemic. Income and location variables partially had no significant effect on fruit and vegetable consumption expenditures during the Covid-19 pandemic. Keywords: behavior, consumption, expenditure
