Abstract

A research about teratogenic effect of ethanol extract Beluntas leaf (Pluchea indica L.) against fetus of mice strain sub swiss webster has been done. Pregnantmice were divided into four groups, which are a normal group, and the other three groups with a dose treatment of 150 mg / kgBW, 300 mg / kgBW, and 600 mg / kgBW. The extract was given to the pregnant mice during the organogenesis period by the 9th until 17th day of pregnancy. Pregnant mice were was dissected on the 18th day to observe fetal weight, number of live fetuses, dead fetuses, implantation, resorption, fetal external abnormalities, and fetal skeletal abnormalities. The results of statistical analysis using ANOVA significantly affected the delay in ossification of the occipital bone and proximal phalanx posterior (F> F crit 0.05) and had a very significant effect on the delay in ossification of the cervical vertebrae, body and arch of the sacrokaudal vertebrae. , the proximal phalanges anterior, and the intermediate phalanges posterior (F> F crit 0.01). Based on the DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) test, it was found that the P1 dose (150 mg / kgBW) is the minimum dose that causes teratogenic effects to fetus of mice (P1> DMRT 0.05), so it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of 70% beluntas leaves has a teratogenic effect on fetus of mice (Mus musculus).
