Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of electric current on the results of SMAW welding on ST 37 steel hardness test. The study uses ST 37 steel material with 0.16% carbon content. Material is given a welding treatment with variations of current 80 A, 90 A, 100 A and 110 A by using SMAW welding with E7016 electrode Ø 3.2 mm x P 350 mm. The seam type used is open V seam at an angle of 70 °. Specimens were carried out hardness testing in the HAZ area. Using the Rockwell hardness testing machine. From the test results it was found that the welded specimens with 80 A, 90 A, 100 A, and 110 A currents obtained an average value of hardness of 32.5, 36.1, 33.5, and 30.5 respectively.From the data it can be seen that there is a difference in hardness in the HAZ region in each welding current used while the best welding current is in the 90 A.
