Abstract

Background. Leucorrhea (vaginal discharge, fluor albus) is an excessive discharge of fluid from the vagina other than menstrual blood, which is not caused by neoplasm or other organic diseases. Leucorrhea can be physiological (normal) and pathological (abnormal). Physiologic leucorrhea is a whitish discharge without foul smell and doesn’t cause any symptom. Pathologic leucorrhea is types of leucorrhea, characteristically with changes in colour, smell, thickness, and has subjective and objective symptom. Knowledge and good practice of reproductive hygiene are thought to be necessary in the care of reproductive health. Lack of knowledge, attitude and practice in vaginal care are thought to be associated with pathologic leucorrhea. This study intends to examine association of knowledge, attitude and practice of vaginal hygiene with pathologic vaginal discharge in female medical students at Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya Methods. This is an analytical observational study with cross-sectional design. Sample of this study includes all female medical students of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya batch 2015-2018 Results. Out of 599 subjects, most associated factors to pathological leucorrhea is knowledge (p=0,044), attitude (p=0.041) and practice (p=0,000) based on multivariate analysis. Conclusion. Knowledge, attitude, and practice of vaginal hygiene are the factors most associated with pathologic leucorrhea.
